Optimum visibility is an essential element for your driving safety.
The lighting system gives off light that lets you see and be seen in both night and day, showing those you encounter how big your car is, where you are and which direction you are going. Along with front, rear or side lights, they include the control units, the headlamp levelling motor, the headlamp washing system and the third stop light. Born in the late 90s, they use lamps containing an inert gas, Xenon, which lights up when high voltage is applied between the two electrodes inside the bulb. They give off a white light similar to daylight, for unequalled driving comfort. Xenon headlights must have an automatic flow corrector and a headlight washing system to guarantee optimum performance.
Used in car lights since 2009 and more and more widespread, they consist of a cold light source issued from a current passing through a microchip. This solid-based system increases duration up to 10 times when compared to halogen lamps.
Auxiliary headlights improve your visibility in bad weather. Specifically, they light up the space between the asphalt and the fog, which usually forms a few centimetres from the ground, without ever touching it. In addition, fog lights with the cornering function also light up when turning, lighting up the corner your car is about to make. This enlarges the visible cone and improves your night visibility.
If your car was manufactured and registered after January 2011, it has a front illumination function that is always on, called daytime running lights (Daytime Running Lamp or DRL). The device improves your road safety: making you more visible to other cars as well as to pedestrians and cyclists, it reduces the number of accidents, mostly in case of bad weather or heavy traffic and it reduces pile-ups by facilitating handling of braking distances.
Better visibility at the wheel means greater safety and comfort for the driver. Today’s cars are equipped with Adaptive Frontlight System (AFS), which improves your visibility up to 70%. The system is automatic: an electronic control unit analyses your driving movements such as the steering angle, the yaw rate and driving speed and positions the low beam lighting, making it “follow” the road.
Safety even on curves
The electronic system that prevents the risk of dangerous curves by activating a fog light is called Static Frontlight System (SFS). In case of turns or curves at low speed or when you turn on an indicator switch, the SFS system also turns on the fog light on the same side. In top of the range models, this function is integrated into the headlights and specifically has a bulb for it.
The light that guides you
Say goodbye to coming back blind at night. Follow Me Home is optional, provided in just a few models and it lets you keep your low beams on for a pre-determined time after you have turned off the engine.
